About the program

We need water to live, grow food and produce energy. Most of Earth is covered in water, but less than 1% of it is freshwater. This scarcity along with growing environmental awareness, has created a strong demand for highly skilled and trained professionals in the field of water management.

The NAIT Water and Wastewater Technician program — the only program of its kind in Alberta — offers a unique combination of theoretical and hands-on training. You will learn the fundamental skills in four key areas of the water and wastewater industry: water distribution, wastewater collection, water treatment, and wastewater treatment.

As a graduate, you will meet the minimum training requirement for Alberta’s Water and Wastewater Provincial Level One Certification Exams, preparing you for a variety of careers in the field. This program is ideal for individuals interested in outdoor work, hands-on mechanical tasks, water testing, and quality analysis — all while providing essential services to communities.
